Our work is not about politics - it’s about polarization.
The programs we support aren’t weighing in on which way society should go on issues. Our mission is to help everyone realize that we are all working together and in this together.
Polarization is not problematic - it’s toxic polarization that is.
Disagreements are natural and people’s passion about their issues is genuine. But toxic polarization grows when we don’t have anything in common to unite around.
We don’t need to uncover what causes polarization - we know that it’s an inherent part of human nature. Instead, we need to identify and support the institutions, norms, and narratives that can keep toxic polarization at bay.
We don’t lack the ability to solve problems. We aren’t solving problems because we’ve forgotten how to communicate and compromise.
The root of this is toxic polarization:
The point at which people on opposite sides of the political spectrum go from being wrong or misguided to evil.
Toxic polarization will be solved when we have a strong enough social fabric that can’t be ripped apart by politics.

CIVIC PRIDE CAMPAIGN
We are currently partnering with UC Berkeley on research into what images and ideas are appealing across the political spectrum.
This will be used to launch a campaign that reminds us why we should be proud to be American.
NATIONAL SERVICE PATHWAYS
Research shows that national service requirements create stronger cohesion in society. We are exploring what it looks like to support the implementation of a national requirement for a year of service following high school.
CIVIC EDUCATION LAB
We want to strengthen civics education in the classroom through giving teachers the tools and training they need to help students understand the obligations and the rights of being a citizen.
